Microcomputer Repairer/Installer Certification Requirements

 

The Microcomputer Repairer/Installer Certification, Program #66032, consists of the successful completion of just FIVE classes:

CET1171 - Introduction to Microcomputer Service and Maintenance
CET1172C - A+ Hardware Service and Maintenance
CET1173C - Network+ Service and Maintenance
CET2176C - Server+ Service and Maintenance
EET1082 - Introduction to Electronics

 

Students can start the program with CET1171 - Introduction to Microcomputer Service and Maintenance, an 8 week course (SIX weeks in summer) that runs in the "A" term (first half of the regular semester). Students can also immediately enroll in CET1172C which runs as an 8 week course that runs in the "B" term. In the following semester students can enroll in CET1173C in the first 8 weeks, and CET2176C in the second 8 week mini-term and be done with the classes in TWO semesters. Students may take tEET1082 - Intro to Electronics during either their first or second semester in the 8 week mini-term in which it is offered. Upon successful completion of the five classes, the student will earn the Microcomputer Repairer/installer Certificate from Miami-Dade College and have received valuable training toward the CompTIA A+ Certification as well as their Network+ and Server+ certifications.

Computer Specialist (Program #66033)

Students seeking the Microcomputer Repairer/Installer Certificate Program #66032 should strongly consider completing the Computer Specialist Certificate Program #66033 as well. The School of Engineering at Miami-Dade College has constructed one of the best College Credit Certification educational packages in the State. Each certificate's requirements fulfill the requirements of the next one as well, so there are no "wasted" classes and all of the classes are Computer Engineering Technology A.S. degree requirements as well so the student is getting a college level education in electronic laboratory classrooms that are traditionally much smaller than general education college classes in which the theory is applied in real world hands on experiments that dramatically improve the learning experience for our students.

Network System Developer (Program #66034)

Students considering the Computer Specialist Certificate Program #66033 should also consider completing the Network System Developer certification as well. This is an advanced certification, but upon completion of the Computer Specialist the student has already completed EIGHT classes that ALL count toward it. That leaves only FOUR more classes and the student can leave the college with THREE college credit certifications, THREE credentials that can be framed and listed on that RESUME. And ALL of the classes are relatively small electronic laboratory environments in which the student has enjoyed the opportunity to interact with the professors and engage in real world hands on activities that reinforce the theory and build strong applied practice skills that translate to effectiveness in the real world working environment.

CET1171 students come from all walks of life and many
are not necessarily interested in becoming professional certified
technicians, but they do enjoy the class and leave capable of
properly identifying and handling all of the parts and can
competently comparison shop components and design, build and
upgrade their own computers without depending on anyone else.

Planning Your Certifications

Students considering the Computer Specialist Certificate Program #66033 should not plan to complete the certificates one at a time, one after the other. This is not necessary, since the subject matter of the second certificate has no prerequisites in the first and this also drags them out over a much longer period of time. All of our certifications can be attained in one year (3 to 4 semesters) without burdening the student with full load schedules.

A reasonable series of courses taken as a light part-time load (maximum attendance of three classes at a time during each mini-term) is shown below. Classes are offered both mornings and nights but not necessarily in the same semester, instead morning groups and night groups are sometimes alternated. Since our classes are small due to the limited workstations in the electronic classrooms, and two preceding semesters groups of students will be seeking to take the same class, it is highly recommended to sign up for the program classes as soon as registration opens and then apply for an extension to pay if necessary. The system will only hold your registration for 5 weeks if you sign up on the first day of registration. So the system will "kick" you out and when you try to sign up again, the class may already be full forcing you to wait and hope for an override which may not be likely due to the limited facilities in the classrooms.
